    Large fairs were held at Fairhill every September and this is how the place got its name.

    and this was supposed to be a fairy rath.
    Long ago in Claddagh people used have what they called "síscíns" outside their houses. These were circular-shaped piles of stones about two feet high and the owners used to spread clothes on them to dry. There are only one or two of them left at the present day.
    Now and again people used to get a dizziness which they called the "Fóirdín a mearbhall". While this was on a person he would not know where he was going or what he was doing. The only cure for this was to turn his coat inside out and then the dizziness would leave.
