  1. May is the unlucky month for marriages. It is said that: "A marriage in May will fade away,
    A marriage in June will flourish and bloom."
    The unlucky day for getting married is Friday.
    "Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
    Wednesday the best day of all"
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for crosses
    Saturday no day at all."
    Matches were made in a public house. Sometimes they were made in the girls' houses. The girl got a fortune according to her father's means.
    Marriages used to take place in the houses long ago. A man called Usher got married in his own house.
    The wedding used to be in the girl's house.
    When the strawboys would come to a wedding they would be treated in the same way as a person who would be invited. There were strawboys in Cahernagarry about forty years ago.
