    Lights of long ago.
    Before rush candles were used in this district pieces of bog deal were cut in lengths set into a hole in the wall and lit when a light was required. Rush candles are common even yet in Curragh and on little Xmas night they are lit and stuck into holes cut in a turnip to fit the rushes.
