    They wore home made jackets and this was called the bhaile-coats. A party of about two hundred of them marched out the Gap of Mham- Mór. These men carried black-thorn sticks. Other parties joined them on the way and when they arrived in Derry there was a big crows of the bhaile-coats.
    Here are two verses of a song about the bhaile-coats
    We met them up in Derrry
    And we met them on the Wall
    But they couldn't beat the bhaile-coats
    That came from Donegal
    From Corks own Cove to Donegal
    On every hill I ween
    Sticks, spite of soldiers or Polce
    To the wearing o' the green
