  1. Carrigeen is plentiful around the shores of Urris. It is gathered in the summer time by the boys and girls.
    Carrigeen is a short brown sea-weed that grows on the big rocks in the bottom of the sea. We can gather Carrigeen when there is a spring-tide.
    When the carrigeen is gathered it is taken home. Then it is spread evenly on the grass. The wind the sun and the rain bleach it and turn it white.
    When it is thoroughly dry it is put into bags and stored away. The most of it is sold to the factories
