    It is then washed with water to remove any milk left. Enough salt is put in to taste. A knife is run through it first to remove hairs, then the salt is mixed in with the hand. It is then made up into pats or "maskins". Maskins are square lumps of butter. It is then ready for sale or use. The butter-milk is used for making bread or as drinks for cattle.
