- About one hundred and seventy years ago there was a great herring fishing in Buckless Bay and all the fishermen of South West Donegal were at it.There came to Buckless about this time an old hag from the Highlands of Scotlands.She visited the quay every morning and used to get a large gálach of fish from every boat and this continued for most of the season.She brought so many herring that on this particular morning they objected to give her any fish at all.Immediately she returned to her hut in the mountain without any fish.When she arrived home she got a tub of water and placed a little wooden bowl in it.
