   32 "The Bawn." The Monks of Monkstown Castle were very industrious. They started farming in Monkstown but the Native Irish often raided the Monks because of their thriving method. The Monks then built a wall around their farm which they called "The Bawn," They drove their cattle inside "the Bawn" on the approach of the raiders.
