    unlucky time to marry. Some marriages were held on Shrove Tuesday. All days in July are thought to be unlucky to marry. there are no local customs or beliefs connected with Shrove in this district.
    Matches are not made in this district. Long ago stock and goods were given as dowies but are not given now. People do not remember marriages in the houses for a long time.
