  1. The world without the animals would be like sheep without a shepherd. Alas! many animals particularly the horse were surpassed by the increase of civilisation and machinery in recent years. The most important and useful animals on the farm are the horse, cow, pig, sheep, hen, duck and the turkey. The horse abodes in a stable and needs special care and attention equivalent to the labour in which it is engaged. Its food chiefly consists of oats and mangolds, and its bedding of straw and furze. The cow, no doubt, is the second most important of the all the animals. To her we owe the greatest debt for the rich milk which she gives us. Out of the milk butter and cheese can be made, and those
