A man from Rathreedane named John Gillard who died about forty years ago dreamt there nights running that a crock of gold was hidden under a hawthorn bush in Martin Coningtons field, and each time he went to search for it the cock stood before him in the doorway. He looked so fierce that the man was afraid to go near him and as he went to in search of it the cock flew at him and he could not go and that leaves the gold undiscovered
