    There was a hedge-school in Orlaur (Kilkelly, Mayo.) It is about two hundred years ago. It was conducted in a barn. The subjects taught were, Irish, spelling and Arithmetic They use to write with burned sticks the teacher that taught in it was a Mr. Duffy of Roscommon,

    There was a hedge-school in Sinolane (Kilmovee, Mayo) It was concducted in a barn. There was another school in Sinolane it was conducted under a sod fence. The subjects were Irish and Arithmetic
