    according to the different animals sold - sheep two-pence per heap, young cattle four-pence, cows and horses six-pence. Each buyer has different marks, some raddle others scisscors, and country people use dirt on top of a stick. Halter is given with a horse but never with any other animal.
    Ballina fair-green is situated south of the parish of Aughamore joining Knock. A number of people attended fairs there long ago. There were no public house but places called shebeens where drink was sold. Towards evening the fair always ended in
