- The name of our village is Ceathramhadh na Mallacht, which means "the cursed quarter". It got this name from an old man who hated all his neighbours and when he was dying he cursed the village. That name remained on the village up to thirty years ago. The parish priest changed the name from " Ceathramhadh na Mallacht" to Ceathramhadh na mBeannacht" which means "the blessed quarter."
It is a very big village, and it is divided into smaller villages Cloonternane, Ballyroe, & Caldragh.- Collector
