    kind of turf in it and this brown turf was called "spáge" and in this way the old people called the village Spaddagh. There are four people over seven years of age living in the village. The all have a little Irish. They can tell stories in English but not in Irish. In by-gone times houses were (most) more numerous. There are but few ruins now remaining. Some of the people emigrated to foreign countries and never returned. Some of the land is boggy and some is very rich.
