In the Mophill lake there are great holes and if a person went beyond a certain depth he will be drowned. A few English soldiers were drowned there some years ago there was also a few civilians from Claremorris.
The Robe river passes about a half a mile outside the town. There was a mill on the banks of this river one time and the place was afterwards called "The Mill". On this river it is said that a family kept a certain part for boating because it was through their property the river ran.
