   M’aiair D’innis dom fodo. Once upon a time there was a man and he had a houseful of children. He was going to the fair one day and he was measuring his children for boots_ two measures for each foot, a bit of a stick that would fit in the boot from toe to heal and a bit with[?]. Would fit across under the instep. The cat was on the hob and he spoke up and said: “Won’t you bring me up boots , too?” “I will, the same[?], a [?],” said the man to pacify him. When he returned from the fair he had boots for all the children. The cat waited patiently but when he found that there were no boots for himself he flew at the man’s throat and it put the man to the ‘pin of his collar’ to defend himself. When the cat was beaten away he “flew” up the chimney in rage. He collected hundreds of cats and they all attacked the home. For 3 whole days the man of the house was standing beside the open hearth with a spade in his hand killing cats as fast as they came down the chimney. After 3 days the rest of them departed pulling the curse of the kiry[?] of the cats on him. This happened somewhere in Ardriston (Very near to the scene of the Battle of the Cats
