  1. One morning in the month of August, 1902, my grandfather, Edmond Marley Rathmore, went out in a field called the "Knock" to get the ass. There had been thunder and lightning on the previous night. When he arrived at the field in which the ass was, he found him dead by the gateway, with the ground under him torn up. He had been struck by lightning.
