  1. About 30 years ago, there was a big wind which caused much damage throughout the country. Trees were uprooted and roofs were blown off houses everywhere.
    At that time people by the name of Howlin lived in a house in Carne near where the pier is built now. One night as they were asleep there came a terrific gust of wind. The whole roof was lifted completely off the house and was blown several yards away. The Howlins stayed in a neighbour's house, while their own house was being repaired.
