Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)griddle to bake in front of the fire and these cakes were called griddle cakes. Potatoe cakes were made of peeled potatoes broken up, and made into a dough. It was then rolled out very thin and placed on a grid-iron to bake. Boxty bread was made out of black potatoes scraped into a pulp. This pulp was boiled in a cloth. After it was boiled it was mixed with milk and salt and made into a dough. It was then rolled out very thin and placed on a grid-iron to bake.
When a cake was made a cross was cut on the top ot it with a knife to bless the work and to make it bake well and to keep the fairies away.
