  1. Local Marriage Customs
    Marriages usually take place here during Shrove, but this Shrove there wasn't one marriage.
    The month of May is thought by the people here to be an unlucky month for marrying, also Friday and Sunday. No-one can give a reason for this belief.
    Matches were always the rule here and a sum of money was always given as a dowry. No stock or goods are ever given.
    No customs are observed on the wedding-day. A wedding feast is usually held that day or the following night.
    No strawboys visit the house or no wedding procession is held.
