I heard the foregoing local song being recited when I was a school boy, and as I've never seen it in print I am recording it among the folklore collections. The story told locally about the death of Myles the Slasher is that he died on the Bridge of Finea in a hand to hand combat with an English officer. It is said that the Officer thrust his sword through the cheek of Myles the Slasher. The latter held it between his teeth until he ran the English Officer through with his sword. Both fell at the same time, and died of their wounds. Others hold that Myles the Slasher survived the battle and that he died in France later.
