Potato cake was made long ago. They are made yet in this district. Potatoes are peeled and ground fine. Then they are put into the flour and when the cake is made it is [?] an oven or griddle.
Long ago a griddle was used for baking. In a lot of houses griddles are used up to the present day. The name of the stand under the griddle is called a brand.
It was the custom that at Christmas a sweet cake was made. This cake was called stampy. A cross is made in a loaf.
