  1. (continued from previous page)
    Where often times with arm in arm she by my side did stray;
    And oft when out on errands round sometimes returning late,
    Her slender form in ambush lay to me me at the gate.
    Oh cruel death, with iron grasp, you tore her from my side,
    But twelve short years have glided past since I made her my bride;
    But now she's laid in you cold grave while I'm left here to mourn,
    I go to her but she can ne'er back unto me return.
    The long grass yet waves o'er her head, long there shall she abide,
    But few and short will be the years till I'm laid by her side;
    Then please to think we yet shall meet on that "Celestial Shore"
    Join hands again in those "domains" where parting is no more.
