- The names of the animals on our farm are, the cow, the horse, the pig, the goat, the sheep, the dog, and the cat.
The house in which the cows are kept is divided in four parts. On the back wall is a square hole on which air comes in. This house is called the byre. The cows are tied to tall stakes by a chain which goes round their necks. A cow who kicks when she is being milked is tied by the hind legs with a hay rope. This tying is called a "langel" or a "spanchel". A (thi) "Pútog" is put on a thieving or "Bradach" cow's head to keep her from breaking into the crops These tyings are home made. A small nick is taken out of a heifer's first calf's ear to prevent it from taking "black leg". A rowanberry bush is hung up in the byre on May-Eve to bring luck to the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
