  1. 1. If a girl went under an examination the people who knew her might say. "That she mayn't miss as a man said to his barley when he sowed it in the river"
    2. If a person said that he would do this, that and the other and never did it the old people used to say "Good morrow to your night, cap your bonnet is in the barn"
    3. If a man got a legacy from a relation and in a few years he had all spent his neighbours would say "Ill got ill gone as a man said to his pension"
    4. If an accident happened and those involved were not badly hurt but someone was looking on the bad side of the story, those that were listening might say "Don't bid the devil good morrow until you meet him".
