    The Growth of the Potato
When the seed potatoes have been in the ground about a month, small green shoots begin to appear. When they are an inch above the soil, they are moulded, to protect them from the frost.
A disease called blight appears on the potato crop about the end of July and the leaves and stalk wither and decay.
To prevent this they are sprayed with copper sulphate and washing soda disolved in water.
