  2. Festival Customs.
    In some districts festival customs are observed. On Saint Stephen's Day boys and sometimes men go from house to house carrying a wren and asking money "to bury her." They sing the following song:-
    "The wren, the wren the king of all birds,
    On St. Stephen's Day was caught in the furze
    Although she is little her family is great,
    Rise up landlady and give us a treat,
    And out with the ladies to bury the wren.
    If you haven't a penny a halfpenny will do
    And if you haven't a halfpenny good-luck to you"
    Long ago on St Bridgid's Eve the people would make rush candles get them blessed and hang them up in
