- Built about 1848 by the landlord of the estate (O'Connor of Baltrasna, Oldcastle) for the benefit of those children of his tenants, it remained until 1982 a single-roomed thatched building, when it (by the) was reconstructed on a modern basis by the manager the very Rev. Michael Young P.P. The O'Connor family died out, and it is said that the curses of some of the Crosskeys women left them without issue. As landlords, little good could be said of them, and the school erected by them at Crosskeys, was for nearly one hundred years a monument to their niggardliness. The O'Conner's retained the manager ship of the school until the beginning of the present century. It was said the last of the O'Conners died in the workhouse.
