  1. The most common birds in this district are; the blackbird, robin, wren, thrush, crow, lark, magpie, swallow, yellow yarling, jack daw, hawk, pheasant, cuckoo, corncrake, seagull, sparrow, pigeon, crane, curlew, owl, goldfinch, starling, stonechecker, pelt, sallypicker, snipe, linnet, chaffinch and tom-tit. Some of these birds migrate. Some build their nests in eaves of houses and in holes in walls while more of them build on the grass, in bushes and in ditches.
The nests are usually made form moss, feathers, sticks, wood etc. Boys are told that it is unlucky to rob birds' nests. When swallows fly low near to the ground it is a sure sign of rain. Also when the crow washes herself in a river of when a crane is seen going up river. To see one magpie is a sign of sorrow, two is a sign of joy, three magpies denote a wedding.
