    and it is worked by the hand, to kindle the fire. When he is going to put a shoe on a horse, he cuts the iron and reddens it in the fire and makes it the right shape, and he cools it in a tub of water before he puts it on the foot of the animal. He mends every sort of weapons also. It is said that there are fairies in the forge after sunset. Long ago there were certain blacksmiths who could work magic.
