- The method of planting potatoes in this district has not changed much during the past hundred years, consequently when we watch people planting potatoes we can see how they were planted many years ago. In this locality the farmers plant potatoes in fresh ground or old ground. When the farmer is going to plant potatoes her first puts out the manure on donkeys backs in pordogs a sort of crees with collapsible bottoms. When he has enough manure he stretches the scoring rope along the ground. Then he spreads the manure along the rope. He drops the seed in the shape of a diamond. Then he takes the spade and turns the sods over the seed, then lawn is put between the seed so that they may be covered. When the stalks appears they must be moulded to prevent frost from them. When the stalks are six inches high they are sprayed with sulphate of copper to prevent the blite from injuring them.
