  1. Among the many ancient Irish customs match-making is one of them. The following are some of the things associated with match-making. When a man makes up his mind to settle down with a partner he looks about until he finds a suitable wife. Then he consults a neighbour to accompany him to the house. Before going he sends word so that they would not be taken by surprise. They set out for the prospective bride's house after night-fall bringing with them a bottle of whiskey and some other stimulants. When they reach the house they are welcomed by the people and are seated beside the fire. After some time the bride-groom's companion introduces their buisness. If a settlement is made the father gives the girl her fortune. The wedding usually takes place a month later.
