  1. When fishing in the sea we fish with a rod and 60 yards of snouting to which the gut and hook are tied. The bait is stuck on the hook and dropped into the sea. The bait consists of crab, herrings, cockle, mussel and lug worm. A piece of lead is attached to the line to sink it. The rod is made of hickory and is nine feet long. When fishing from the shore the fish caught are usually cod, sole, turbot, brill, eel, plaice, bass, ray and dog fish. When fishermen begin to catch dog fish they have to give up fishing in that place as others go away when the dog fish come.
