- (continued from previous page)"Father what means an "S.O.S."?
My child a signal of distress,
Which vessels send when storm and gale,
Grave danger to the crew entail,
The kindly priest perceived with joy,
Great satisfaction of the boy,
Who raised with eager glance his head,
As solemnly the sagart said,
My child this life for you and me,
Is one great broad expansive sea,
Oe'r which we sail 'midst surf and foam,
Heaven, our journey's end, our home,
And when temptations winds oppress,
Then must we send our S.O.S
Lord ere we perish "Save! oh, Save!
Come lest, we sink beneath the wave,
Star of the Sea, we thee implore,
Guide thou our course to heaven's shore,
If thus we sound the Grand Alarm,
God will protect us from all harm.- Collector
