- It was in the time of the Black and Tan regime in Ireland. Some time about the year 1919 or 1920 there was a policeman named Mahony stationed at Graigue-Na-Managh barrack and his private residence was at Tinnehinch where his wife and family resided.
At this time there was a tinker named Dan Doran who travelled through the district and who was very popular on account of his quick jokes. He always gave a quick witty reply to any question and hence young and old, rich and poor always had welcome for him when he came to their doors.
