- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There are many different types of travelling folks in our district. There is one man who comes to this town about once a month. He carries a big case which is full of ties, stockings, frocks, and scarfs. He usually arrives in town by the post car at ten o' clock in the morning. He travels from house to house trying to sell his stuff. Sometimes he sells after a hard bargain saying that his stuff is worth more that anyone else's. He always comes when a fair is in the town as he has a better chance to sell when all the country people are in.
Some days you see a crowd of travelling people in the town some looking for alms and others selling small articles. Lots of people buy from them. There are gypsy women who go around telling fortunes. They are called fortune tellers. Some of these people have no houses and others have caravans in which a crowd of them can live. People who have no place to stop go to a house to get a night's lodging. The woman of the house makes tea and sometimes gives them porridge. Sometimes they are put to sleep in a house.- Bailitheoir
