- In olden times shops were not near as plentiful as they are now and people especially in far off country places had to go many miles to the nearest towns to make their purchased of provisions or food.
It was always the custom here for the village shop-keepers to open the shop doors after each Mass on Sunday mornings and sell small articles such as bread, tobacco, bootlaces, cigarettes, fruit, onions, tomatoes, sweets and such like provisions.
Of course only the provision shops open as the public houses would not be allowed by the law to open on Sundays.
This custom is still practised in this village, and I am told in nearly every village in the county.
The shops in towns do not practise this custom. In this case money is and was always given(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
