  1. In this district there are many places still spoken of in connection with the Penal Times.
    There is a field just outside this village called "The Chapel Hole Field". It got this name because in the Penal Times Mass used to be said there in a hollow part of the field.
    The Priest who used to say Mass at that time here was a Father Whitty.
    He also used to go over to Saunderscourt and to Screen to say Mass.
