- At Clancy's of Kate's Cross, Murrintown, Barony of Forth, Wexford, there is a Penal Cross. It is made of wood and is a dark brown colour. It is 8 ins long, and the bar across is 2 1/2 ins wide.Carvings on the front of the cross show a ladder, a sponge, a robin, a spear, nails, thorns, a lash and a bowl.On the back is carved a small cross and the letters I-H-S are cut under it. 1740 is the date marked on it.This cross was made by a member of the family in the Penal Times.Long ago an old man who lived on the Mountain of Forth named Radford made Patrick's Harps.My mother told me the above and I examined the cross by permission of the owner.
