- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Magpie. The birds that are not so common are the Starling, Hawk, Sallypicker. Seagull, Tomtit, Yellowhammer, Waterhen, Wild-duck and the Swan.
The Blackbird builds her nest in a whitethorn bush. She builds it out of little bits of sticks woven together with bits of mud to keep them together. Then she lines it inside with feathers and hair. The Blackbird lays five eggs and at the end of three weeks she brings out her clutch. The old legends say how the robin got his red breast was when Our Lord was nailed to the cross the robin carried moss to try to stop the blood. Another legend is told that when St Francis was preaching to the pagans they turned away and would not listen. He called the birds and all the swallows came and listened to him.
