- The old people now a days has no stories about the famine years. But they heard their fathers and mothers telling about the people were not able to buy the things they were so dear. The district was very highly populated at that time. People do not occupie now in ruince. It is said that the blight came from France. The potatoes did not rot in the pits they rotted in the ridge the few that was. They got the seed potatoes for the next year from America. The people had Indian meal instead of the potatoes. The government gave progect money for making progect roads. People died in great numbers there. The people took feaver, and it was called the yellow feaver it was the worst feaver going. This feaver followed the hunger. People do not talk about other distress.
