- When potatoes are sown in a garden they are usually put in ridges. A line of rope is pegged down at one end of the garden and brought along to the point where the ridge is to end and pegged down there. Manure is brought from the manure heap in a barrow and thrown in heaps along by the line.
It is then spread by means of a graipe to the width the ridge is to be - usually three and a half feet. The clay is cut down by the side of the line with a spade.
The potatoes are dropped on the manure then, three in a row and about a foot apart each way. As a rule one man spreads the manure, and another follows, "dropping" the potatoes or splits.
The clay is then shovelled up out of the furrow and thrown in over the potatoes. The ridge is then clapped and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
