  1. The district around here was very much affected by the famine.
    Sometimes the neighbours would go to the farmer's house and take the boiled turnips out of the pot to eat, and some of the people would go out to the field and eat them raw. All the potatoes rotted while they were growing. The potatoes were sown in drills and ridges. When the manure was spread out the clay was shovelled up on it, and then a man would come along with a piece of a stick called a teveen and then another man would drop the potatoe in the hole and cover them in with clay. A number of people died from a disease called cholera.
    The food that was to come to Ireland was kept in the stores in England till it rotted. It was then sent to Ireland and the people eat it with hunger and
