    Long ago the people in this district used to sow a lot of flax. When it grew up they pulled it and spread it out to bleach. Then they wove it and made shirts with it, but they were very coarse. Flax is not grown in this district now.
    At a funeral, the nearest friends of the deceased person wear black clothes as a sign of mourning. Children wear green frocks on Saint Patrick's Day. Stockings, socks and other things are knitted locally.
