    backs and great fun is created by trying to catch the apple in the mouth.
    Apples and coins are thrown into a tub of water and children dive for these treasures and are allowed to keep as their own, anything they succeed in bringing out of the water with their teeth.
    An apple is peeled so that the skin is not broken and the log strip is thrown over the right shoulder, and will form the initial of the future spouse.
    Two nuts, one representing a youth and a second representing a girl of whom he is supposed to be fond are put to roast, should the nuts burn together, the pair will wed, but should they separate then the match will not come off.
    A head of cabbage is hung over the door by the maiden, anxious to procure a husband and the first male to enter, the following morning is supposed to be the one destined to share his lot with her.
