1. The Local Roads

   The local roads are known and named from the towns to which they lead, as The Ardee Road, The Slane Road, The Carrick Road, The Kingscourt road, The Nobber Road. the hills on some of those roads were cut down or taken out during the Famine period. There is one road which adjoins the parish of Drumconrath and passes through the townland of Woodtown and which is still known as the New Line and which is said to have been made in the Famine period. I have heard it said that the old people who remembered that time used to talk about the great numbers of workers who died during the making of the road. The deaths of the workers was caused by disease brought about by scanty and inferior food.
   Where bridges now exist were in former times fords and are still known as fords.
   The Bogah Bridge is on the road leading from Drumconrath to Ardee. This bridge crosses the river Dee where the townlands of Garvey and Mandistown adjoin. The land at the bridge is soft and marshy which probably accounts for the name An bog Ath. On the road from Drumconrath to Slane and adjoining the townland of Woodtown there is
