- Farmers in this locality make 12 rush lights on the eve of January 6th. They stick them in a large slab of cow manure and allow them to burn to the end.
Then they take the manure and scatter it on the frames of doors or walls of the outhouses, invoking at the same time the blessing of God and the 12 apostles on their stock and crops.
They believe that luck will attend their farming undertakings during the following year. There is a farmer's house about a 1/4 mile from the school. Mr O. has told me of this custom which is still practised.- Faisnéiseoir
