    Tom Neil remembers the Connacht men arriving to work with the farmers and reaping the corn with hooks.

    These men slept in the barns and took their food in the farmers houses.

    The men started work at 6 a.m. and stopped at 6 p.m.

    Breakfast
    consisting of porridge and milk. Served at 8 o'clock.
    Dinner
    12 to 1. Potatoes, butter and buttermilk.
    Supper
    6 to 7. Porridge and milk.
    About 60 years ago all the land available was under corn. No cattle were kept. Only a few cows to supply milk.
    A man named McCann who had a mill in Kilearne used to buy all the wheat.
