- We grow about two acres of potatoes. My father prepares the land. The ground is manured before the potatoes are set. The seeds are set in drills, which are made by means of a plough. There are no wooden ploughs nowadays, but about fifty years ago they were still in use in this parish.
Before the potatoes are set they are cut but great care is taken that there is an eye or more in each portion, because it is from the eye that the potatoes grow. The potatoes are set in drills about a foot apart. Then they are tipped.
They are left so for about a week, then they are raised which means covering them with extra soil. Next artificial manure is sown on them and they are harrowed. They are left undisturbed for about a month when they are again tipped and covered so as to promote growth. Then they are sprayed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
